Scholarship Success 2013

Brackenfield School Celebrates Another Year of Record Scholarship Results.

Brackenfield School, Harrogate’s only stand-alone Prep school, has again been celebrating the achievements of their Year 6 pupils who have gained a record number of Scholarships and Exhibitions to independent secondary schools. Thirteen pupils took entrance exams, some to more than one school, and gained fifteen awards.

Mrs Skillington, Headmistress of Brackenfield said; “We are again very proud of all of our pupils’ achievements. So many children have gained scholarships across all areas of the curriculum; academic, sport, drama, art and music. It is a wonderful reward for their hard work. Whether our pupils plan to go on to Independent or State schools, these results reflect the high standards that we aim for in the school from Nursery through to our Pre-Prep and Prep classes.”

Ofsted praised the high academic standards and also the Brackenfield ethos which aims to “make children happy and confident, to make the most of individual talents and for every child to leave with high self-esteem, ready for the next challenge.” Ofsted reported the pupils’ behaviour as exemplary and their personal development as outstanding. This caring and nurturing approach is achieved through small, mixed ability classes limited to one for each year group, helping to achieve every child’s full ability.

Brackenfield is a family school run by Anthony and Helen Comerford, both fully involved in the daily life of the school. Principal, Anthony Comerford was delighted with this success. “These are another fabulous set of results. Our pupils deserve to be really proud of their success. On behalf of the pupils and parents I would like to thank all of our excellent staff for their high standards of teaching and support in achieving these results.”
