Royal Hall 110th Birthday Competition Winner
PRESS RELEASE - ROYAL HALL CELEBRATES 110TH BIRTHDAY ON 27 MAY 2013
When HRH The Prince of Wales re-opened the Royal Hall on 22 January 2008, he likened the hall to an ‘elegant and once-lovely old lady who had fallen on hard times…but after her makeover I see she has been taken back in time to the beauty and splendour of her youth. The result is simply breath-taking’.
That lovely old lady will be celebrating her 110th birthday at a special open day on Bank Holiday Monday 27 May 2013.
A small team from the Royal Hall Foundation Trust and Friends of the Harrogate Theatre are putting on a show “Celebrating 110 Years of the Royal Hall”.
The celebrations have started with a children’s competition to design a 110th birthday card. All entries will be on display on the day and prizes will be handed out to the winners:
1st Alex (age 11) Brackenfield School 2nd Freddie (age 10) - Saltergate Junior School Joint 3rd Poppy (age 6) - Oatlands Infants and Ollie (age 7) - Grove Road Primary School
The building celebrates Harrogate's spa heritage and it has hosted all the great performers of the twentieth century, including Sarah Bernhardt and George Robey, the London Philharmonic, Anna Pavlova, the Beatles and John Denver.
The Hall will be open from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm on 27 May. There will be a continuous film show of Harrogate’s past, live music, a quiz and treasure hunt for children and they can get their faces painted, there will be talks and exhibitions and you will be able to go round the hall with a guide or on your own; you can stand on the stage or peak into the changing rooms to see where stars get ready for their performance.
Come along and see this glittering golden palace returned to its former glory after a £10m restoration project.
Tickets are available from the Harrogate Theatre Box Office for £3.50 or £5 at the door on the day – accompanied children 16 years and under free.
Promoted by the Royal Hall Restoration Trust, Friends of Harrogate Theatre and Harrogate International Centre.
