Brackenfield School Blooms in Tour de Plants Competition

The Harrogate in Bloom competition “Tour de Plants” has been won by Year 2 Brackenfield School pupil, Ella with Year 6 pupil, Ralph winning the Year 3-6 group.

The competition, held to commemorate the Tour de France which arrives in Harrogate on July 5th and 6th, attracted a record 715 entries from children around the district. Children were asked to design a Tour de France jersey in the design of the theme “Tour de Plants”. Harrogate in Bloom is a voluntary organisation that promotes environmental responsibility and horticultural excellence in the town and this competition is one of many held throughout the year to encourage these worthwhile aims. The competition was sponsored by the North of England Horticultural Society. The Tour de Plants is a route that follows the Tour de France in Yorkshire taking in a range of famous gardens to visit.

Harrogate in Bloom’s, Margaret Sutcliffe presented the pupils with their prizes in assembly and congratulated all the pupils for their wonderful entries. She explained that by picking up litter and avoiding treading on flower beds, everyone can help to keep Harrogate looking at its best when thousands of visitors arrive in the town for the famous race. Mrs. Sutcliffe presented a T-shirt and mug with the winning designs to Ella and Ralph along with a certificate. Many congratulations to Ella and Ralph for their great Tour de Plants designs and for doing so well.”
