Y3 & Y4 Trip to Harewood House

Despite the terrible weather the children had a good time at Harewood House.

They had a visit to the kitchens to see how people used to prepare meals in olden times. The children also went to the workshop where they spent time learning about penguins and making a penguin crown.

The highlight was going to the penguin enclosure to see the keeper feed the penguins, where one lucky pupil got to help.

In the wild the Humboldt penguins feed on anchovies, squid and sardines that are found in the Humboldt Ocean current of the West coast of Peru.

At Harewood they feed the penguins on whitebait and sprats, fish that are a similar size to their natural diet.
