Benji the Bus comes to Brackenfield

Mr Dennis Richards OBE, entertained pupils at Brackenfield with his new book, ‘Benji goes to the seaside’. A master story-teller, Mr Dennis Richards held the rapt attention of the children as they heard about Benji’s life story – from popular ‘Coastliner’ bus taking trips to the seaside to a scrappy school bus and back to a happy ending as he is converted into an open top seaside special bus. Pupils were able to discuss important themes about acceptance of others, not judging by appearances and respecting everyone as Mr Richards has used his wealth of experience as a teacher and headteacher to write a book which contains important messages that can be explored and enjoyed by pupils of many ages.

Pupils impressed Mr Richards with their insightful answers and enthusiasm for the book. Mrs Sowa, Brackenfield Headteacher was delighted that the pupils were able to meet a newly published author and hear about how the inspiration for the story came about.

“At Brackenfield, we aim to inspire pupils in all areas of life and bringing interesting people into school is a core part of our curriculum. ” .
